Our History
“Falcons Landing started as a dream, a dream to create a place where those who served their nation could relax and savor life to the fullest.”
The dream began with a group of retired officers who met regularly for breakfast at Andrews Air Force Base. They formed the Air Force Retired Officers Community in 1984 and opened the doors to the first residents in 1996. It remains a very relaxed, friendly and warm community where residents greet each other by name, not rank.

Eligibility

Two rules, and they are simpler than they used to be

Eligibility at Falcons Landing is the question we are asked most often, so here is the whole answer in one place rather than spread across four pages.

Independent living: age 62 and better

While proudly honoring its military heritage, Falcons Landing recently expanded eligibility for independent living to welcome all older adults age 62 and better, regardless of military or government service.

  • Cottages on tree-lined streets, each with landscaping and outdoor living space
  • Five apartment buildings with indoor access to the community center
  • The Terrace Homes, combining the best of apartment and cottage living
  • No military or government background required

Health services: open to all

Hillside House, The Johnson Center and West Falls Center welcome all members from the local community, no military or government background is needed. If you or a loved one need 24-hour care, whether short-term or long-term, Falcons Landing is there for you.

  • Assisted living at The Johnson Center and at West Falls Center
  • Memory care assisted living at Hillside House, 18 private rooms
  • Skilled nursing and long-term care at The Johnson Center
  • Short-term rehabilitation and respite stays
Health services have always been open to everyone. The change in 2026 was to independent living only. If you were told years ago that you did not qualify, the answer today is different.
